Bangkok Pride parade - June 1

Post by Gaybutton »

The activities will be from May 31-June 4. The main event, of course, is the parade. That is scheduled for June 1 and will go from the National Stadium to the Ratchaprasong intersection. That's the Lumpini area near Central World. I have not spotted information yet about what time the parade starts. If you come across that information, please post.

And if you go to the parade I hope you will take photos and post them.

Bangkok Pride 2024 to be packed with activities to celebrate love

by THE NATION

April 30, 2024

Bangkok Pride, an annual event for gender diversity groups, this year will feature grand parades, concerts and academic forums to promote the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, the organiser Naruemit Pride Ltd announced on Facebook on Monday.

Bangkok Pride 2024 is scheduled to take place for five days from May 31 to June 4 across several venues in the capital. The theme of this year is “Celebration of Love” to mark Thailand’s recognition of same-sex marriage with the passing of the equal-marriage bill, the company said.

The main event will be the Bangkok Pride Parade on June 1, to be participated in by members of LGBTQIA+ groups, who will express the concept of love in five topics: Love Wins, Love for Identity, Love for Dignity, Love for Peace and Earth, and Love for Freedom.

Participants will march from the National Stadium to Ratchaprasong Intersection on Rama I Road in Bangkok’s Pathum Wan district. The general public can join for free with no registration required.

From May 31 to June 2 at Lido Connect, people can take part in Bangkok Pride Forum, a series of seminars on topics related to same-sex marriage, human rights and education.

A sister forum will also be held at SCBX Next Tech, Siam Paragon shopping mall, from May 31 to June 4 covering such topics as economic, health-care, technological and environmental impacts of the equal marriage bill.

Last, the Drag Bangkok concert, from May 31 to June 3, will mark the biggest gathering of drag artists of the year across various nationalities, cultures and generations. The stage will be packed with showgirls and dancers who will create the greatest and most spectacular entertainment experience at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon.

They'd better hope for cooler weather by then - otherwise the Drag Queens will have that lipstick they slap all over their faces dripping down to their ankles.

They're not going very far. That route must be comfortably under a mile, if they go directly. Ideal for those who don't like walking.

Why not? If Rudy Giuliani can do it, so can they . . .

Even so, in this kind of heat even less than a mile can be a very long way.

And on the subject of drag, here's some of their promotional material :| .
There's not much diversity in this advert, but perhaps the rest of the campaign might correct that.

Anyone besides me remember Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window"? The one in yellow at the center looks to me just like "Miss Lonelyheart".

As long as I'm mentioning Alfred Hitchcock, here's his cameo in "Rear Window"

Thailand certainly has it's share of flaws, but I don't know of a more gay supportive government anywhere on earth. I know of none that even come close.

It will be interesting to see if any government officials show up for any of Pattaya's Gay Pride events.

Despite problems and complaints, I am very grateful to be living here.

Pride event to span over five days

Govt keen to host more LGBTQ events

by Poramet Tangsathaporn

May 21, 2024

The government, along with the private and civil sector, will host a five-day Pride event in Bangkok to show Thailand's readiness to be Asia's "rainbow" capital.

At a press conference announcing the event on Monday, the organisers said this year's Bangkok Pride Festival will be held under the theme "Celebration of Love".

According to Ann Chumaporn, founder and president of Bangkok Pride parade, this year's festivities -- which include a parade, various concerts, public activities and the Bangkok Pride Forum -- will run from May 31 to June 4.

"The reason we're hosting [the event] over five days is to showcase Thailand's ability to host bigger events, like the 2025 Inter Pride Conference and the 2030 World Pride parade," she said, adding the event will also celebrate Thailand's push to become the first country in Southeast Asia to legalise same-sex unions while raising awareness of other issues affecting LGBTQ+ and other marginalised individuals and communities.

She said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has confirmed his participation in this year's Pride parade, which will take place on June 1. The parade will be held from 3-6pm.

Responding to an alert by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, which warned of a possible attack on LGBTQ+ individuals during Pride month celebrations, Ms Ann said the organisers have always placed a lot of emphasis on security, as LGBTQ+ individuals often become a target of hate, especially in Asia.

She added the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will be coordinating with the Royal Thai Police to secure the event.

She said around 100,000 people took part in the event last year. This year, she said, at least 200,000 participants are expected to turn up at the event.

The parade will start at the National Stadium and end at Ratchaprasong intersection.

Thapanee Kiatphaiboon, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said LGBTQ+ travellers contribute significantly to tourism revenue, noting they spend 40 times more than the general spender.

This year, there will be pride events in 30+ cities across Thailand, including Chiang Mai and Koh Samui in Surat Thani.

"However, in order to be a Pride destination, all of the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals must be met. We'd like to be one of the supporters of the community,"

Separately, Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich said at a recent seminar that LGBTQ rights are not only about amending laws and regulations, as they are also about improving accessibility to public resources and services.

He said that not only will the Pride celebration help the government meet its target of generating 3.5 trillion baht in tourism-related revenue in 2024, it will help further cement Thailand's international image as a fair, inclusive and progressive country.

"Our government sees that LGBTQ individuals not as a burden but as an important force that could help Thailand advance in all aspects of life," he said.

Mr Sermsak also confirmed the ministry's officials will join the parade this year to show their support for the nation's LGBTQ+ communities.

Ask the liquor wholesalers . . .

Of course looking at the Bangkok bar prices, off fees, and tip demands, I can see it working out that way.
