Part of the article says, "He cited Brexit and the strong value of the Thai baht as major contributing factors."

He forgot to mention the paperwork hassles Thailand needlessly imposes as a major contributing factor. I think it is.

I don't think that paperwork really comes into it for holidaying tourists.
I have two friends who regularly come on holiday here.
One comes about four times a year and has decided to cut it to two because of the value of the pound.
The other, comes twice a year and has just cancelled his November visit because of the pound.

The paperwork is very easy coming from Europe. Spend 5 minutes filling in one form on the plane.

I notice some of the whinging about the decline in tourist numbers is from Phuket. I went there about 10 years ago and there were a few factors which have not encouraged me to return so far. For example, price gouging by the baht bus mafia & I was kept awake to 4~5:00 am by a disco near my hotel.
Elsewhere in Thailand, neither issue is a problem for me. Maybe Phuket needs to get its own house in order.

Also, as we all know it's a beach resort and I believe the junta went through a phase of banning beach chair concessions & for all I know, they may still close the beach 1 day a week, as in Pattaya. Not a smart idea.
