After entering the post above (Making your own DIY Mask), Jai and I decided to put this into motion.

Jai, being a fashion designer who makes his own garments, has 2 rolls of woven cotton fabric here in his workshop which should work well. I've posted a link below which provided us with the information needed to select the best material for surgical grade masks.

I'll pick up a few cans of waterproof spray at HomePro later this afternoon. We feel that water-proofing the cotton material is the best way to go. Not as effective as N95, but maybe close.

We can give these to the monks when they walk alms in the morning, who can then distribute them to anyone in the village who needs them.

Ummm, by any chance did you forget something . . . ?

Also at least one Wat is keeping the monks inside and are not doing the morning alms walk, which is a smart move. I think other Wats will soon follow suit, perhaps all of them.

Oops...sorry...Jai walked in the room in his underwear when I was typing and I got side-tracked.

EXTRACT FROM FT ARTICLE:

"The White House tried to force 3M to export masks to the US from its hub in Singapore as tensions with the Minnesota-based manufacturer spilled into the open in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

3M this week resisted demands by White House officials to send about 10m N95 respirator masks being produced in Singapore for markets in Asia to the US, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

The company was reluctant to accept the White House request on legal and humanitarian grounds, as medical workers across the region would be deprived of protection, the person said.

3M executives did commit to exporting a similar number of masks to the US from a plant in China but that did not stop the White House from publicly attacking the company. Donald Trump also invoked Korean war-era powers under the Defense Production Act for the second time since the start of the outbreak. The latest effort would compel the company to sell its products to the US government if requested. "

Besides "closing" Pattaya, like Phuket, the article also mentions foreigners not wearing masks.
