Jomtien Foodland

Post by richsilver »

Well Folks, it looks like construction has finally begun for the Foodland on Thepprasit. Let's hope this is not a false start.

It's about time. The "Coming Soon" signs went up a year ago.

I passed the site today. I saw what appeared to be two workers inside the area. I saw no heavy equipment. Actually, I saw no equipment of any kind at all. Some dirt had been dug, but not much more than would fill a couple dump trucks, if that much.

I'm not even sure whatever was done there had anything to do with Foodland. I hope it did. We'll see.

I hope so. If they're really finally building it, it will be the first full scale grocery store in the area. Food Mart is good, but not really good enough - and their prices are generally more expensive than grocery stores such as Foodland. Once Foodland opens, will Food Mart be able to compete?

I wonder how long it will take to complete the construction. As I said above, I saw no heavy equipment when I passed by and I don't see any in your photos either.

Consider how long it has taken Friendship Market to put up their building. Seems like ages.

I'm not following what you mean. Friendship Market is putting up a building? Where?

On the left side of their parking lot. Long skinny building. Just painted it green to match (almost) and there is shelving inside.

What will happen with the old building? Will it get renovated? Dunno.

I passed by today. Other than the hole that was dug, nothing else has been done. I have no idea what is going on at that site.

I passed by again today. Still nothing there but the sign. Absolutely nothing else has been done. Now I'm wondering if they're ever going to build it at all or if perhaps some sort of "pay off a higher-up's brother-in-law" problem is the reason for the delay.

The sign has now up for a few months. I have no idea why nothing else has been done, but I'm sure the delay is disappointing to locals who hoped to be shopping there long before now.
