... and those providing humanitarian assistance in the delta, post Nargis, are having difficulty with their visa renewals. It seems that the Sen. Thug wants the country cleared of foreigners for his, so called, election. The more one reads about it, the more absurd this farce appears.

Now, don't you just wonder who will win the election, most likely by a landslide? The only question in my mind is whether the opposition, if there will even be any opposition, will be dead or imprisoned before or after the election.

I think having a few seats won by the break-away group of Suu Kyi's party will simply give the regime "legitimacy" in their (and China's eyes)- they can even tell the world it was a "democratic" election and that the parliament has some opposition members. By contesting 100 seats or so, the opposition break-away party has simply played into the hands of the junta.

The opposition parties lack the time and finance to fight all seats and it seems likely that fewer than 500 of the 1187 seats will be contested. Where there is only one candidate there will be no ballot box, so the result will be known on September 10. (www.irrawwady.org) The Senior Thug is taking no chances and has arranged a 'heads I win, tails you lose' contest.

Of course. After all, he doesn't want to have to give up living in the lap of extravagance and luxury just because it's all paid for by millions of his countrymen who are forced to live in fear and poverty because of a few outrageously selfish pieces of shit who managed to seize and hold onto power.

It really is time that the Western Democracies climbed down off the fence and stated that they will not regard this farce of an election as legitimate while, at the same time, pursuing the 'crimes against humanity' for which the regime is responsible. That is to say nothing of ethnic cleansing and all the rest.
