CNN reports that the U.S. population grew 9.7% in the past decade to 308,745,538, the slowest rate since the Great Depression.
I am wondering why? Are there more gays and bisexuals and/or fewer straights wanting children? Has to be a reason. Since this is being compared to the Great Depression, does it have anything to do with the economy? What are the statistics in other parts of world, including Thailand?

Re: More Gays or Fewer Breeders?
I don't think the"depression" we are experiencing now has anything to do with it. The US financial problem surfaced about 2 years ago and the report states the decline is over the past decade.
Re: More Gays or Fewer Breeders?
in fact that is still a fairly HIGH rate. In most of Europe it is stable and in some it is even declining. Only Africa still grows at a fast pace. (BTW_the radio here had exactly the same figue this morning on some news-item)
The reason does not need that much of thinking: much fewer children per str8 couple-to averages of just 1,4-1,6 in many europe countries. (for just simple grow=stable a rate of about 2,2 is needed).
The USA still wins for many migrants coming in-and many of them tend to have, at least initially, larger families.

The USA population is growing with hispanics. They're catholic and fail to use birth control.
