Gay Civil Partnerships: Could The Philippines be Next?

Post by fountainhall »

In such a Catholic society and with so many macho men proud to tell of their conquests with women, the country's House of Representatives has commenced an on-line poll to gauge support for gay marriage.
Are you in favour of the proposal in the House of Representatives which legalises same-sex unions as civil partnership in the country?

1. Yes, because this will give equal civil rights to same-sex couples. The bill provides such couples with legal partnership status that will govern their property rights, custodial rights over children and adoption rights.

2. No, because the underlying intention is to legalise marriage between members of the same sex and I personally believe this is wrong.

3. I am undecided
The initial response from 65,216 voters was largely for Option 2 by 59% on 21 May. The following day, though, the majority of the 117,006 voters had put Option 1 into first place by a narrow margin of 51%.

No doubt the Catholic powers-that-be and the gun-toting womanising President will want to ensure this poll ends up in the trash can. But the final result might be revealing.
