Figure Skating Championship

Post by Captain Swing »

The world figure skating championship is currently going on in Japan. I just watched the men's short program. Last year's champion, Nathan Chen of the US, came in first by a large margin. I'm no expert, but I thought he was clearly the best. Amazingly, the US took 3 of the top 4 spots. Yuzuru Hanyu widely considered Chen's only rival as world's best, could only manage third place, but to my eyes he only made one small mistake. My beloved Shoma Uno came in 6th. The free skate is on Saturday and any in the top group could win, but Chen will be very hard to beat.

Thanks for alerting me to this. I’m in Taipei and have no clue which channel this may be shown but will ask friends. Nathan Chen has been having a good year, but I hope Hanyu can pull out all the stops in the final day.

This is an interesting article about the rivalry between Hanyu and Chen and how it is likely to see both improving beyond their present excellence.
