If you were in charge of Pattaya, what would your problem solving priorities be?

Barry Kenyon's article about cable cars (see: viewtopic.php?p=109273#p109273 ) got me thinking about what my own priorities would be for trying to improve everything in Pattaya ranging from seawater pollution to solving traffic problems. I don't know enough about cable cars to be in favor, opposed, or just neutral. But Pattaya certainly has need for many more improvements besides cable cars.

If I had my way, just a few of my personal priorities would be:

1. Start reducing traffic problems by banning tour buses within the city.
2. Clean up the horribly polluted sea water and put in competent water treatment facilities.
3. Deliver on the promised means of assuring adequate water supplies even during severe droughts.
4. Start seriously enforcing pollutant emission regulations.
5. Instead of new condos and hotels, build good parking facilities.
6. Find ways of dealing with massive holiday traffic jams.
7. Synchronize the traffic signals.
8. Require contractor selection based upon competence and reliability rather than by lowest bidder.
9. City planning based on realistic population growth forecasts.

Please feel free to add to the list.

1. Replace baht buses with proper buses operating on a proper network. Just like Bangkok
2. Charge cars for using the roads and parking
3. Reduce the number of lanes on roads and construct much wider pavements
4. Ban parking and food stalls on the pavements
5. Make some streets strictly free from motorised traffic. Supertown, Boyztown, beach road, Soi Bukhao. Or make them bus only.
6 Build a couple of good tram lines
7 Demolish a few car parks, particularly anything near our tram lines

None of this will happen and I will probably continue coming here on holiday.

I would add the following to your already good lists:

- more ferries or water taxies. I live in Jomtien and it would be great to take a ferry or water taxi from Jomtien to Pattaya and vice versa.
Pattaya / Jomtien being seaside cities - they could take more advantage of using the sea as a transportation "rail".
I am from Long Island, New York where we have water taxis and also ferries for transportation to the offshore FireIsland. For those who are rich, we also have sea planes that land on the water.
- change the zoning rules/laws for the Jomtien Complex Supertown entertainment center that would allow for:
- a minimum of 1 place to dance within the Complex (or within walking distance from the Complex) - where T-Dances would be made available - early hours for dancing - like from 6pm until 10pm.
- Install Sound Meter (Noise & Decibel) system in the Complex and those entities who exceed the acceptable noise and decibel levels are either fined or shut down until they agree to respect the established noise and decibel levels
- a minimum of 1 gogo bar - perhaps a bit tucked away (hidden) --> Why hidden? the current rules do not want these in Jomtien - so if it could be hidden within the Complex - like up on the 2nd or 3rd floors within the Complex - us gays would get what we want and the city of Jomtien could still maintain the image that it wants to maintain.

I think delivery vehicles would have to be permitted, but maybe only at certain times of day.

Making it like 20 years ago just isn't going to happen.
Even if we managed to open about a dozen good gogo bars, both the boys and the farang would still do most of their trade on phone apps, so the bars wouldn't be viable.

Indulging in a little reminiscing is good, but after that, life is far better if we adapt and make the most of what is on offer right now.

As for the reminiscing part, it's a pity there isn't a collection of good quality photos of past bars to help that process. Nowadays, with everyone having better camera phones, Facebook etc, there are many more photos of modern bars. However, I want to see delightful photos of Euro Boys, Funny Boys etc, rather than some nightmare from Moonlight.

If I were in charge of Pattaya, one priority would be to try to at least get the bar scene back to some semblance of the way it was in yesteryear rather than trying to focus on making Pattaya a "family oriented" city, which in my opinion is absurd.

Meanwhile, if anyone has such photos, please post them.
