Thai milk tea - ranked 7th best

Post by Gaybutton »

Personally I don't like it and I don't drink it. Much too sweet for me. But if you've never tried it, it is available virtually everywhere. Try it and judge for yourself.

Thai Tea Named 7th Best Non-alcoholic Drink In The World by TasteAtlas

By Adam Judd

25 February, 2023

Thai tea was ranked seventh among the top 100 Best Rated Non-alcoholic Beverages in the world by TasteAtlas, a travel guide platform.

TasteAtlas is an online food atlas that offers information about authentic and traditional dishes from various parts of the world. It allows users to explore interesting dishes by region, country, or ingredient, and also provides a platform for users to suggest dishes, recipes, and recommendations.

On Sunday, February 19, the website released its list of 100 Best Rated Non-Alcoholic Beverages in the World, and Thai Tea, also called Thai Milk Tea, was ranked seventh on the list.

Thai Tea, known as Cha Thai or Cha Yen in Thailand, is a popular drink made by combining black tea with condensed milk and topping it with evaporated milk. This orange-colored drink is typically served cold with ice, and it is commonly presented in a tall plastic glass with a straw at local beverage shops.

I think it ought to be called Sugar Tea, just so the customers know what they're getting.

The Internet suggests 1/4 cup or more of sugar/syrup !

Fortunately, I prefer the taste of a black Americano, not poisoned with sugar.

Whether the internet suggests that or not, they don't use sugar, at least not directly. They use the sweetened condensed milk to sweeten it, but they use so much of it that it is much too sweet for me. I've never looked it up, but I imagine the way the condensed milk is sweetened is with none other than sugar.

After my trip to Vietnam, and after getting addicted to Cà Phê Sữa Đá - see below definition - the closest thing that I can find in Thailand is Thai milk tea. But I try to ask them to limit the sugar as much as possible.

When I lived in Budapest, every morning I would make the above Vietnam coffee - but the hot version and to keep it from being sweet I would buy condensed milk instead of sweetened condensed milk.

However, since moving to Thailand, I have not yet been able to find any Vietnamese ground coffee like Trung Nguyen. Later this week I will be back in Budapest for some months and I plan to bring back with me some bags of Trung Nguyen Vietnamese coffee.

Cà Phê Sữa Đá - definition as per Google:
Cà Phê Sữa Đá (literally – Coffee Milk Ice) This is the most popular Vietnamese Iced Coffee recipe. A base of sweetened condensed milk, over which about 2 oz of potent coffee is brewed using a individual serving size filter. The coffee itself is syrupy and strong, similar to an espresso.

Maybe I can save you a trip.

http://www.trungnguyenthailand.com/

It is also available on Lazada. Just go to Lazada - https://www.lazada.co.th/ - and do a search for Trung Nguyen Vietnamese coffee.

Next time you're looking for something, but can't find it or you think it can't be found in Thailand, try this board's "Business Recommendations" forum and post your request. If it can be found in Thailand, there's a good chance someone will know where to look.

Lazada are trying to ruin every app on the internet with their intrusive advertising.

So where there's a good alternative source for a product, I prefer not to use Lazada.

I have a problem with that too and it is very annoying, but I tolerate it and often buy from Lazada because they carry many items I want and can't find elsewhere. Ordinarily I would never buy from any of these places with intrusive advertising or end up on their site when they redirect, but for me the pros outweigh the cons with Lazada.

Another online shopping app is called Shopee, verty similar to Lazada. They too sometimes advertise as Lazada does, but nowhere near as often.
