Unfortunately there are still plenty of overhead wires - you know - the ones the city promised would be moved underground. Let's see, that was how many years ago . . . ?

1 Well, I think they got rid of all the communication cables. So it doesn't look quite as shoddy.
2 To get the full benefit, I think they need to also remove the electric wires and the poles.
3 Then neatly fill in the holes to match the existing pavements.

One thing at a time. Lets see if #2 happens next. I'll also look out for evidence of them routing high voltage cables underground.

As for #3, well, it would be a first for the state sector in Pattaya.
The best shopping centres and hotels manage to get a good finish and pavements that don't fall apart in 3 years. So it can be done here.


On the subject of public works, in the latest round of resurfacing the pavement on beach road, I was surprised to see them actually sealing the paving slabs. Unfortunately, they waited until the slabs had been in for about 2 weeks, so they were sealing in all the stains from food, dirt and whatever else.

This might be a coincidence, but the cafe nearest to where they were cutting wires down this morning has no internet today.

Further along Pattaya Thai, near Sukhumvit, most of the overhead electric wires have also been removed. Sometimes neatly and in some cases, the wires have just been cut, leaving the ends dangling. That won't matter if they finish the job and remove the poles.

The problem is where they're left dangling and for how long. People are getting fed up.

Shoddy work, disregard for public safety and convenience, taking way longer than reasonable to complete the job, and lack of effective action by the powers-that-be is nothing new in Pattaya.

A wave of public outcry has surged on the official Facebook page of Mayor Direct Line, as citizens express alarm over the abandoned cables strewn across various locations in Pattaya. The outcry follows the commencement of demolition and restructuring of communication lines along South Pattaya Road by the Public Utility Division of the Pattaya Municipal Electrical Engineering Office, Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) Pattaya Office, and a private company.

On March 23, one concerned commenter highlighted the sight of communication lines dangling across the beach, questioning the decision to abandon them above ground when the expectation was for them to be buried underground. Another resident raised doubts about the handling and disposal of the removed lines, recalling a previous incident where sparking power lines caused a fire in the middle of the night, disaster narrowly avoided thanks to prompt action.

These comments underscore the growing apprehension among residents regarding the ongoing infrastructure changes and the potential risks they pose. The municipality and relevant authorities are urged to address these concerns promptly to ensure public safety and bolster confidence in the projects.
