Pattayaland 1 seeks hole-y intervention
By Boonlua Chatree - October 7, 2016

Residents are complaining about huge potholes that have deepened on a South Pattaya side street after years of heavy flooding.
Holes on Soi 13/3 have grown to up to 30 centimeters deep after being neglected for what residents claim has been years.

Also known as Soi Pattayaland 1, the street used to be privately owned, but long has been a public soi used as a key transit route between Beach and Second roads. In recent years, tour buses have taken to the soi, contributing to the road damage.

Business owners on the bar-lined street say tourists have fallen into the holes many times, especially at night. They want city hall to finally address the holy problem and bless their street with a repair crew.

Maybe it needs a drag queen bathing in one of the potholes to get beloved leader's attention and action.

After heavy rains, and sometimes even light ones, rest assured Pattayaland is by far, by very far, not the only soi where potholes appear. And those are the new ones. Previously existing potholes are still there and the rains only make them even larger. When once in awhile they do get repaired, much of the time the work is incompetent and the next rain just washes them away.

Some might make light of the pothole problem. I wonder how lightly they'll take it when a pothole throws them from their motorbike, causes a flat tire or other damage, or they simply fall into one and are injured.

The problem is not a joke. The problem is serious.

It appears that the OP is suggesting to avoid Pattayaland Soi 1 because of the dangerous potholes. But GB is correct as you can't see a pothole when it is full of water, and I won't drive in the rain.

If and when the tunnel on Sukhumvit is finished it will be interesting to see if the water will drain out during a deluge.

And I for sure don't intend to be inside that tunnel during a deluge to find out. Even if the tunnel remains bone dry, where is the south entrance/exit located? Right where Sukhumvit is most prone to flooding to the point that it becomes impassable.

Draining a town that is adjacent to, but above the level of the sea should not be at all difficult.

Traffic tunnels in Chiang Mai remained dry during the heavy rain in August, while water was standing and covering the sidewalk in front of Maya hours after the rain stopped. For the water that comes in from the slope you need a pump, so all traffic tunnels must have a pump.

Pattayaland Soi with X-Boys and Kawaii had potholes/puddles, but that that soi got a new surface about a year ago.
