I'm not surprised. I wonder how long it would be before Pence would also demand that the military starts marching with the goose step. And don't forget to force gays to wear a pink triangular patch.

If Trump falls, and that's a big IF, though we all hope for it, Pence is next in line. Be careful of what you wish for.

Re: Maddow Exposes Pence Law: 18 Months in Prison, Fine For Gay Marriages
I don't like Pence and don't deny that he's far from being "gay friendly", BUT that story really is a work of construed nonsense.
So, on Indiana's application form for a marriage license, there are (or used to be) designated fields for one "male" and one "female" applicant, respectively. Their claim is that if a gay couple wishes to marry using that form, one of the applicants has to lie about their gender (by misrepresenting themselves as male or female), which attracts the penalty mentioned.
That is clearly nonsense. If I were to marry there and had to use that form, I'd simply add "#1" after "male" and cross through "female", replacing it by "male #2". By amending their form in handwriting, I wouldn't be lying, I would simply assume in their favor that they didn't get around to produce forms usable for gay marriages yet. If they'd reject the form because of my modifications, I'd sue them in federal court to provide me with a form I can use. At no point would I be liable to any penalty, as falsely claimed in that article.
How dumb would you need to be to lie about one applicant's gender instead?

But goose steps are new steps today. And America is happy and gay . . .Gaybutton wrote:I'm not surprised. I wonder how long it would be before Pence would also demand that the military starts marching with the goose step.
Accurate, and here's a source for which you cite:travelerjim wrote:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Indiana

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Indiana since 6 October 2014, when the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal in the case of Baskin v. Bogan. We contacted the Indiana state attorney general's office on 9 November 2016 to confirm whether any same-sex couples have indeed been prosecuted under the terms of HB 1006 but have yet to hear back.

In view of this, I am curious TravelerJim, just how would you fill out the current application form?
They could still reject you on "alternative issues" perhaps! I wouldn't pre-suppose anything. I wonder which would be riskier though, a possible $10,000 fine and jail term (an idle threat?), or hiring a lawyer ($) to sue in a federal court. I guess it would depend on which county clerk you were assigned. If you got a religious liberty freak like Kim Davis, the result would be unpredictable.Alex wrote:If I were to marry there and had to use that form, I'd simply add "#1" after "male" and cross through "female", replacing it by "male #2".
