PORK WITH CABBAGE (STIR-FRY)
This is a really simple recipe, and I guess it qualifies as "comfort food." It is also the favorite of my boyfriend. You only need a few things to make it:
* 1. Some pork loin or tenderloin (300-600 grams). About a pound of pork loin.
* 2. A cabbage.
* 3. Garlic. (2-5 pieces, depending on you!)
You will also need to have some white soy sauce (mushroom flavor), some fish sauce, and some black pepper. But I regard these as part of your batterie de cuisine, along with the mortar and pestle.
Option: Some phrik khii nuu!
OK. Ready to cook now?
* (a) Put some rice in your rice-cooker and start it cooking.
* (b) Chop the pork into bite-size pieces, and put the pieces in a bowl.
* (c) Chop up the cabbage, and leave it on the chopping-block.
* (d) Take out some garlic and whop it into little details in your mortar-and-pestle.
Whew! That was hard, wasn't it? So go take a rest while you wait for the rice to finish.
Bing! Rice finished!
* (e) Get out your wok, turn on the gas burner, and put in some vegetable oil.
* (f) As the oil gets hot, put in the crushed garlic and toast it (short time).
* (g) Put in the pork and the cabbage, and stir-fry them.
* (h) Add fish sauce and soy sauce according to taste.
* (i) Cover for a minute and let the cabbage wilt.
* (j) Uncover and stir it up some more. Add some freshly-ground black pepper.
* (k) After about three minutes of this, cover the food and turn OFF the heat. Go take a rest.
Five minutes later, dinner is ready!
One lovely addition is that Japanese La Yu Chili Oil, a mixture of chili and sesame oils that comes in TINY little bottles.

Re: Recipes
Growing up Catholic at a time when we weren't allowed to eat meat on Fridays this was a dish we often had. Personally, I think that is one of the most disgusting things to eat, but it is easy.Undaunted wrote:How about a recipe for tuna noodle casserole?
Cook noodles until nearly done. Stir in a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of drained tuna. Put it in a casserole dish and top with crushed potato chips and bake until heated through.
Re: Recipes
This was a Friday favorite in my family, too. I was going to suggest this but my mother made this differently. She didn't put it into a casserole dish, nor did she add the crumbled potato chips. She just cooked it on the stove and added a can of peas. Actually, cream soups make a good base for many recipes. Just google the campbell's soup site. I think I like the lvdkeyes recipe better. It sounds tantalizing.lvdkeyes wrote:Growing up Catholic at a time when we weren't allowed to eat meat on Fridays this was a dish we often had. Sorry, Mom!
