Double Shot and BC Bars Gone
Re: Double Shot and BC Bars Gone
Well I’m shocked if Double Shot bar is closed permanently. I’m hoping it’s because the owner has gone back to Europe. They seem to be one of the more successful bars.
Re: Double Shot and BC Bars Gone
I received a message from a bar owner asking me for 30,000 baht to pay the rent. I’d hate to see this bar close as it’s my favorite.
He connected with me through Facebook. A boy I met in that bar gave him my real name. On fb if you click on a profile a few times they will recommend you as a possible friend candidate. So that might have given him the idea to contact me.
At any rate, I’m expecting another message from him today.

Re: Double Shot and BC Bars Gone
I hope you have sense enough to say no, but that's definitely an "up to you".
Re: Double Shot and BC Bars Gone
If it's the bar I think it is, I wouldn't want to see it closed either. However, the idea of paying their rent would be out of the question.
Lots of bars I like have closed over the years.
Now if it's that bar, the alleged "rent" also seems to have been inflated for what is a small single unit. By comparison with other bars, I would have thought it should be under 20,000.
If going after a sponsor, of course there's no need to match the request with the actual rent.
Finally, we're only in June. How are they going to pay the rent for the remainder of the low season ?
Re: Double Shot and BC Bars Gone
Well, I sent the money. Only because I love the bar and how much fun it’s given me the last couple years. I’m writing off the money. However there is a chance I will be paid back.Jun wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2024 2:58 pmIf it's the bar I think it is, I wouldn't want to see it closed either. I told him to request a lower rent but he says that’s not possible. The bar makes good money during high season, it’s the rest of the year that’s a problem obviously.

I was worried about the owner of that bar. He is/ was quite obese. Besides money coming in, health is another issue.
Ed Sweeney, a popular utuber who just retired to Thailand was diagnosed with a brain tumor shortly after his arrival. Lucky for him he had decent insurance.

Over on another gay forum there's talk of rents, based on what bar owners told them.
Since culture, modesty, business instincts or whatever may encourage certain people to make their business sound less profitable than it is, I'd rather see what rents premises are advertised at.
Dorothy's was 49,000 per month. Complete with a 10 bedroom hotel, so fill 2 rooms and the rent is covered. I think that was a fairly good sized bar, but having never set foot in that one, I might be wrong. Too many bars to try them all.

On the other hand, I suspect the probability of being asked for money again, or asked to fund some other big ticket item is near 100%. "My mother needs an operation" etc. If people know you are generous, requests might be quite creative.

There's a chance of me winning the lottery.

Since you seem to have plenty of money to throw away, I need six-million baht immediately. Don't worry about getting paid back because I received an Email from Dr. Mweleki Mwenene of Uganda who is going to put US $47,000,000 into my bank account as soon as I send him my account details.
So, I'll be alright . . .
