I used to get an occasional offer for upgrade from grindr but haven't for a while. maybe if I started a new user account... Need to try blue stacks....

I guess I will try again in thailand next time with hornet, but I am usually in BKK and pattaya so grindr is good. Grindr is good in colombia
Right now in the UK, with filters off, I see just 1 other Hornet profile in a 10km radius. I see the maximum permitted 99 profiles on Grindr within the 10km radius. Subjectively, Hornet used to have a similar number of people, before they started taking the mick with the adverts.

In Pattaya, some boys use all the apps & others rarely stray away from their preferred app.
That preferred app might be Grindr, Hornet or even Jack'D.
Knowing that some rarely move away from their preferred app, is the one reason I try several of them. With Grindr getting the best results in Pattaya.

The one thing I can't entirely figure out is why some of the bar boys don't appear on the apps.
1 Are their profile photos unrecognisable from their current appearance ?

2 Are they just interested in drinks & tips in the bar, rather than sexual services ?

3 Do they lack the skills to converse in English on an app ? Even by using google translate
(I know it can be done, as one Khmer lad used to negotiate all of his Grindr trade from voice input & audio output)

4 Do they get enough trade from the bar or other sources, without using the apps ?

5 Are they only on at 3:00 am after finishing at their bar ?

The answer to that would be anybody's guess. My own guess is some either don't want or are afraid to meet a total stranger who they haven't met and chatted with inside the bar, where they are safe. Farang are choosy about who they want to take off. Maybe some of the boys are just as choosy about which farang they are willing to go with and want to meet them personally before going off with them.

Like I said - just guessing.

That could be part of it, but having a presence on the apps doesn't mean they have to rush out to meet every farang that contacts them.
They could just say "come and see me at XYZ bar" or where they have already met the customer, agree a meeting. Therefore getting some sales from online marketing.
Of course, I'm assuming rational thinking here.

Having said that, it would also be rational for me to ask, but where I have offed lads from bars, I usually just asked for their Line IDs, rather than the phone app IDs.

Comparing Grindr & Hornet, I like the bigger pictures and more common use of English in Grindr profiles.

Translating the Hornet profile text has always been a problem, as I have not found an easy way of selecting the text in the app.
Taking a screenshot, cropping it and sending the image to google lens is slow.
However, I've found it's easy to select the text and paste in google translate on a PC.

Which is exactly what tried doing one evening, in order to learn a few key words & make life easier in future.
Amongst the easiest to read in Thai was chuck wow. I saw this in one profile, then noticed he's a board member ! ;)

What I do see is:
1 A surprising number of people clearly offering massage or similar services, written in Thai. I'd previously assumed anyone selling services in a tourist town would include English text. Wrong !
2 They typically change the spelling of certain keywords. I've noticed the same thing in English, e.g. ma55age, ma-ssage etc. They also do it with นวด (nuad). Perhaps Hornet don't officially like commercial activity ?

As mentioned at the end of my previous post in this thread, I was mystified by the tendency for people to change the spelling of certain keywords.
e.g. ma55age etc.
It's also very common with entries in Thai language on Hornet.

This thread on the gayguides forum provides a few clues about what might be going on:

Another truly exceptional lad via Grindr today. A nice well educated University student. Very cute, slim, pleasant to talk to and way above average at certain other aspects of the job.

On appearance, I would't pick any of the Screwboys ahead of him. That's before I consider his other qualities. With me, the bar doesn't stand a chance.

Excellent! You found a definite "keeper", and that's not always easy to do. I think you'll be seeing him again, but be careful. Since you're not yet living in Thailand, I don't think you need me to advise not to let things get too close.

Grindr have replaced "Block" with "Hide". At first, I thought it was a sensible renaming, but that's not the case.

For ever profile you "hide", the number of profiles you can view is reduced by one.
So if I use "hide" in the same way I have used "block", I would be able to view a negative number of profiles.

Except "hide" isn't working on my device.

Fortunately there are other apps.

At present, my phone still has the Grindr "block" feature. Grindr version 24.18.0
However, on my tablet, Grindr has the inferior "Hide" feature, despite also supposedly running Grindr version 24.18.0

Grindr need to keep a fully functioning block feature, as without it there are too many lady boys taking up screen space.
I can see 75 profiles with the free version, down from 99 a couple of years ago.

Jack'D has become steadily more popular over the years. No surprise.

My account was suspended for 1 hour on Jack'D. The likely problem was sending a link with my Line ID in it.
The boy allegedly couldn't find my Line from my ID and I couldn't find his. So I sent a link, which resulted in the suspension.
So we had to wait an hour to continue the conversation.

I then got suspicious about why the numbers 2007 appeared in his not working Line ID. It turns out he only has a photo of his ID card. Claiming to be 21. I decided not to meet.
