Did you meet him?

No. Mainly due to having got my calendar full for the last few days of that trip. Possibly a mistake.

I call it "the mobile phone conundrum". Most boys I see in public are busy with their phone, and some even in my room (even in my bed; in some cases online dating when I look at what they are doing). But when I message some, they are slow in reply.

Sensory overload is another point. I spotted hundreds if not thousands of unread messages on boys' phones messenger and online dating apps.

Irregular sleep-wake-patterns, ADHS and other mental health issues can play a role as well.

And some might be offline, but still shown as online to others. Have to check with Farang friends how my profile is shown when my phone is off or I close the app.

Just like with internet, where you have (Ping (latency is the technically more correct term) means the time it takes for a small data set to be transmitted from your device to a server on the Internet.), I check the boy's latency.

Sounds like just too much fun.

I've been saying for years that the easiest thing to do in Thailand is meet an available boy. But somehow you guys are turning this into a major feat. Go figure!

An analogy.
Kicking a ball is easy. But they add a few more people, call it football and they spend more time talking about it than playing. Somehow, that's more fun.

I also doubt very few of us do the easiest thing. That would probably involve opening up the phone apps and meeting the first boy to contact you. Does anyone here do that?

That depends on who that first boy is . . .

Well, at least half of them have moustaches.

I'm looking for lads who are under 30, weighing about 50 kg, mostly free from tattoos and with no facial hair.
So that rules out about 90%. Fortunately, there plenty of nice boys in the remaining 10%.

Some people manage to meet available boys in public live. I tried multiple times, to various degrees of failure, and returned to online dating despite its shortcomings.

Places where you can meet other gays are either commercial (gogo, massage, anyway many straight which is not an issue for me) or don't have what I'm looking for (gay saunas), or too late and too loud (disco, anyway success rate too low).

Similar to trying to find someone to hook up with back in our home countries, the commercial scenes are always the best places because that's where all the action is at, although people who don't like bars and other late-night gay venues, loud music, etc., simply have a harder task hooking up - which is where the apps seem to be very useful to some.

The same would hold true for those who simply don't get around as well as they did when they were younger, have physical handicaps, or simply can't afford the nightlife.

Cruising used to work in Thailand. I've met lads in Silom Complex, on Rama IV road, on Surawong and of course, Dong Tan beach. Although in those days, I still did more trade in the bars.

The phones seem to have killed that off. Even if you're spotted by a lad in public, the most likely method of contact will be a message on a dating app shortly afterwards
