Global Corruption

Post by Captain Kirk »

Just caught a news snippet discussing a Global Corruption Perception Index.
transparency.org have listed every country and given them a mark out of 10 to show how corrupt, or otherwise, it is.
The higher the mark the "cleaner" the country is.
Winners apparently are New Zealand who achieved 9.5 out of 10.
They are followed by a bunch of Scandinavian countries and the likes of Australia and Singapore. Canada comes in at tenth.
The UK gets a mark of 7.8 (ridiculous considering hundreds of the MP's got caught fiddling their expenses) whilst the US is in 24th with a score of 7.1 (HA! nonsense again).
There again maybe their high marks should be judged against the fact that a place like Rwanda gets 5.0. Even such enlightened places as Uruguay and Israel get pass marks.
Alas Thailand labours low in 80th with a score of 3.4, equal with Peru. Russia struggles along in 143rd with just 2.4 alongside the likes of Uganda.
Bottom of them all is North Korea and Somalia, both earning just 1.0 each.

My own opinion is the marks are very generous.
