The Italian Fabrizio La Torre spent five years in Bangkok between 1956 and 1961 to work for the newly established company, Italthai. A keen photographer, he spent a lot of his spare time chronicling life in the city.
This Exhibition of his photographs opens on 28 November at the Serindia Gallery. It will then move to the National Museum on 1 January until it closes on 20 January.

Details of the Serindia Gallery can be found on this map. It is at OP Garden close to the junction of Silom and Charoenkrung Roads, tucked in behind the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

I wonder how much an off was back then, maybe 50 baht!

Interesting! That would have amounted to about US$2.30 at the exchange rate in those days.
The average annual salary in the US then was around $3,600. Now it is around $61,000. An off at Bt. 50 would theoretically now be worth about $39 or Bt. 1,280. I suspect you are about right, Undaunted!

Anyone know where it is possible to buy prints of photos like these?

You might find some at the Exhibition. A couple of years or so ago I went to an exhibition of photos by John Thomson taken in the mid 1800s. Small prints were on sale. Why not call the gallery and check?

I just wondered if there are any specialist antique markets here.
PS as an edit, I just had a thought that there is probably something at Chatuchak.

Your off from 1961 would now be aged 75+....Same age as most on another forum!Undaunted wrote:I wonder how much an off was back then, maybe 50 baht!

There was [don't know about now] a shop on the second or third floor of Mike's Dept Store in Pattaya, beach side.Bangkokian wrote:I just wondered if there are any specialist antique markets here.
