Maybe they're joking or they just don't see it as I'm seeing it. When I look at the amount of water and then look at the proposed drainage pipes, to me that's like tossing jelly beans at an elephant - certainly nothing close to what would be necessary to prevent floods. They might make flooded streets drain more quickly, but that's about it. Once again, I hope I'm wrong - especially since some of the most serious flooding happens on streets I need to drive through.

Second hope: the tunnel(s) will be in the right places - unlike the Sukhumvit traffic tunnel that I'm still convinced was built at the wrong intersection. I'd be much happier if they built it where it needed to be - the Sukhumvit-Pattaya Tai intersection. I doubt that will ever happen.

Third complaint: the drainage tunnel(s) are going to empty into the sea. Why not instead channel the water to where it will do some good, such as the reservoirs? if that is not possible, then how about building a new reservoir and channel the water into it? Pattaya's population is not getting any smaller and enough water to accommodate everybody without having to worry about periodic droughts would be nice. I never did like having to flag down water trucks and pay them 350 baht to refill my water tank every 3 or 4 days. And lord only knows where those trucks were getting their water from.

At least the 2 metre pipes ought to be better than the ~0.8m pipes they have installed in some locations. About 6 x the capacity.

At the bottom of second road, the plans showed 2m pipes going in. Definitely 2m, as I stood in one of the pipes.
However, the plans didn't show where the pipes discharged to. Which is critical.

Clearly that's where it has to end up, but the plans were not going all the way to the sea.
So I couldn't tell from the plans was if the 2metre diameter pipes connected to pipes of 2m or more in diameter. I presume it either has to go to that known discharge point north of Walking street or to the "river" a little further south.

Do you want the kind of "water" that runs off from Pattaya going to supply your tap water ?

Theoretically, perhaps it's possible. But in practice, they would need holding tanks, treatment plants & pumping stations. In a city that can't even do the drains properly.

If the water is properly - emphasis on properly - treated, I have no objection. I never drink or cook with tap water. I use bottled water for that, but I have no problem showering with it, cleaning with it, doing my laundry with it, flushing my toilet with it. watering plants with it, washing my car with it, bathing my dog with it, etc. Seems to me that's better than wasting it.

If not properly treated, I suppose you could put it in a spray bottle and use it as a substitute for pepper spray. Probably accomplishes the same thing . . .
