75 million Americans will receive a 2.8 percent increase in their Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments in 2026.

Who will receive a COLA notice?

Cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) notices will be sent to retirement, survivor, and disability beneficiaries, SSI recipients, and representative payees.

Reminder: Your American Social Security 2.8% COLA increase begins now, as of January 1, 2026. The increase should appear when you receive your January payment. Most people can expect your benefit to increase somewhere between $50 - $60 per month.

That, at least, is somewhat helpful to expats considering the current exchange rates.

Next we'll see if Trump's promise of a $6000 increase in your standard deduction for income tax actually happens.

Presumably funded by increases in an already obscene level of borrowing?

Sooner or later, all that debt will lead to currency debasement.

And before anyone else points it out, the UK is heading in the same direction.
