Cambodia help

Post by paperboy »

Hi everyone,

Could anybody help or advise me please on my trip in June to Cambodia?

Arrive in Bkk, stay 3 nights . Then get bus to Sean Reap , staying at 8 rooms again, stayed here last year, was great
highly recommended. Will stay for 5 days before i head to P.P., never been before, but read on here good reports of the
Rambutan resort, I like to stay central, gay or not, its all the same to me, as long as i can take boys back to room. and close to bars and restaurants.

After about 5 days in P.P. i want to head to Sihanoukville, for 5 days, any recommendations for here please, or you think i should go somewhere else?

The plan after here is getting the bus to Pattaya for 2 weeks. Looking for a nice beach, restaurants and a chance to meet up with some boys.

That's my plan for 2014
What you think?????

The Silver River Hotel in Phnom Penh allows guests, however do your booking by e-mail & negotiate to get the room rate down and eliminate their "joiners fee" (I did this last month. Just 2 e-mails required, replies were prompt). Hotel is in next street from Blue Chilli bar.

Cheers guesthouse in Sihanoukville was just fine 2 years ago, although it requires a tuk tuk or a very long walk to the beaches.

Yes I did Sihanoukvile to Pattaya by bus. A bad experience.

The Cambodian side went OK, mostly. 8:00 am bus left about 10 minutes late & made good progress to towards the border.
Then stopped for 30 minutes @ their favoured restaurant, just short of the border.
Resumed, drove about 2km to the border. Crossed the border.

Then waited for bus to Pattaya on Thai side. No one would say when the bus runs, or which bus it was. A total shambles. I met a pleasant Scotsman who made the trip regularly, He advised they would only run a minibus to Pattaya if there were enough customers, if not they would bus us to the next town and put us on the "service bus" which would arrive by about 11:00 pm.....
Thankfully, after about 2 hours waiting, there were enough customers to run a minibus, so after about 3 changes of minibus, we got to Pattaya sometime around 7:00pm.

Recommendations.
Either:
1 Book bus on Cambodia side only.
2 Once you reach their border cafe, hop on a motorcycle to the border & book your own onward travel on the first bus leaving the thai border to a city in the right general direction.

Or arrange trip as follows:
1 Fly BKK==>PP; Stay 2 days or so
2 Bus to Sihanoukville
3 Fly to Siem Reap. Stay at least 3 days
4 Fly to BKK, or perhaps taxi to Poipet and bus to Pattaya.

Wow Jun, thanks for that.
I didn't think of doing it that way
and I've just checked the flights. They're very cheap too.
Once again thanks for all your help.

I believe there is no line to Siem Reap, as it runs to Battambong (written as Battambang, pronounced Battambong).
Last month, the Battambong end was closed and looking like there will be no train soon.
However,I was surprised to see many people on the platform in Phnom Penh though. Was on the way to the airport, so could not take a closer look. Don't know if that was for the Iine to Sihanoukville, or if part of the other line is operational.

I travelled by bus. Took a Captiol Tours bus from Battambong to Phnom Penh, which was passed by about 10 other buses on the way & seemed to have weak brakes. Next time I would search out a bus company with a better reputation, possibly one with faster minibuses.
Anyhow, at least they have 1 passenger per seat on every Cambodian bus I tried, so much better than Vietmamese buses.
