Having recently returned from a fact-finding package tour to Bali, I was quite charmed by the island and its men BUT I am horrified to find that it is almost impossible to find a Seminyak hotel or villa or whatever with smoking rooms.
So, before I write the place off my holiday destination list, I'd really like to know if there are actually any hotels, villas or whatever that do have smoking rooms. I would be most grateful if anyone could provide further information on this as I've tried searching on the internet and discovered that most of these places either exult in discouraging smoking guests or hide their shameful little secret and make no mention of the fact on their websites (I'd rather NOT wait till they've billed my credit card and I'm standing at their reception counter to discover this particularly horrifying fact, thank you.)
And I'm not interested in a any of those "smoking on your balcony/outside the room/beside the pool" places either. I stayed at one of those dreadful hotels and ended up feeding mosquitoes every night.
Honestly if there are no hotels or villas or whatever with proper smoking rooms, then I won't be going back at all under any circumstances. I had a bad experience with their customs staff on arrival - before I even went through the immigration checkpoint - and I am not anxious to repeat the experience on top of spending my entire vacation providing the island's mosquitoes with a nightly banquet.

Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
I applaud Bali hotels. As a non-smoker I find it nauseating to check into a room where previous guests have been smoking. No matter how they clean the room the smell remains.

Perhaps this link will help you find hotels in Bali that permit smoking (and which hotels non-smokers should avoid): http://www.tripadvisor.com/HotelsList-B ... 13664.html

Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
Dear GB, Thanks for the link. I'm tempted to say I ran into a prissy prig non-smoker but the truth is I didn't know I had to tick all the "no" boxes in the declaration form so I just filled it in, signed it and handed it over to the customs man. Who then proceeded to scold me loudly for not signing the thing. I asked him in both English and Malay what I'd done wrong but he was too engrossed in giving me a 3-minute dressing down to tell me that. And after he'd got his jollies, he waved me away grumpily. There was a long queue of people by then and I didn't find out what the problem was until I exited the airport and asked my friends who didn't get scolded.
And then, imagine my shock and horror while checking into the hotel, to be asked to sign an indemnity agreeing to pay the stupid hotel IDR1,000,000 if they caught me smoking in the room. I'd checked up the hotel on the internet and there wasn't a single mention of it being a non-smoking place or the need for that kind of indemnity. I guess some secrets are too shameful even for the internet!
The more I think about it, the less I want to go back there now. I was so angry that other than having to buy a couple of T-shirts (I ran out of clothes because it was so hot and I sweated so much) I refused to buy a single thing that would remind me of Bali.
Come to think about it, I probably did run into a prissy prig non-smoker.
Anyway, I am trying to be fair about such unfortunately unexpected experiences so I am wondering if going back one more time to see if I can have a few less traumatic experiences to erase those particular memories (especially if I can find a nice rentboy or two to speed up the process) might be worth my while after all.
Ya, I'm sure I ran into a prissy prig non-smoker at the airport now. After all, the Balinese smokers I encountered were all such lovely polite people.
PS
I just had a look at the link and it seems like all the hotels with smoking rooms are way out of my budget. So, I guess the Pattaya money boys will have to put up with me for ten days instead of five every year until I kick the bucket. Or run out of sex holiday funds. Whichever comes first.

Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
I just had another more careful look your link again, GB. I feel so silly because I didn't realise the prices were quoted in Malaysian Ringgit so there are some places that I can afford. Favehotels seem to be OK for me.
I'll have to think about this some more considering all this new information. I really did like the art stuff, sex aside.

Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
Bali Agung Village i have stayed and there have been no problems with smoking in "both" ways in the room. Will stay in Seminyak again in june but this time in Ginger Suites near gay bars and Banana Spa. Fave hotel also is near gay bars but many travellers reported it is noisy like a railway station.
Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
Thanks, Atri. I'll have a look at Bali Agung, too. I read the complaints about the noise at Fave hotels but that's okay as I'm planning to party until I'm too exhausted to be woken by anything short of a bomb going off.

Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
Enjoy it. In Bali Agung it was funny during dinner watching many gay men coming back from the beach with their boys and quickly going to the rooms. If you can rent a small villa there. It is not so expensive but you have a terrace and garden and half open bathroom. Once i stayed there in january but millions of mosquitos...
Re: All Bali hotels non-smoking?
Mosquitoes... Oh dear. That was the reason I didn't want a hotel where you had to smoke on the balcony. I just came back from a hotel where you had to smoke outside the main entrance and I provided a banquet for the mosquitoes every night. Not much of a holiday if I have to worry about being infected with dengue fever every time I step outside, I assure you.
