Manila

Post by vnman »

I remember looking for information about the gay scene in Manila a few years ago and that it was hard to find some comprehensive information. I've been here a while now and it's still hard to find info online.

It might be because the only Filipinos I know are (straight) work related or my bf.

So I just don't know much about the gay scene. I've got some friends coming over and they will really want me to show them around hahaha...

Anyway, the point of this thread is that I found a blog that gives a very clear idea about the Manila gay scene...the part you never hear much about. I mean, it's easy to find Chelu in Malate or O in Ortigas but what about the gogo scene?

The page I'm linking to gives reviews from a few years ago. There are newer stories to be found on the blog as well.

I'm truly shocked about the prices!

Some of you might find it interesting.

Ow, I can add that a very popular place amongst the locals is called Starlites in Cubao.

Shamelessmack had several articles on the Philippines. Offline and sorely missed. As far as I remember, nothing worth leaving Thailand for.

I must agree with you christian when you're talking about massage and dancer scene. However, The night I wrote the first post I went to Starlites in Cubao.

Holy cow... That place was packed with everything I like. Only late teens and twinks.

The place itself is horrible. Entrance is 50 pesos, a bit less than a euro, and that includes a drink. Sadly enough, they only sell beers...no hard stuff. When you enter you have a big room on the right and a little bit smaller room (1/2) on the left. I'm bad in estimating space sizes so when i have to compare, the big room is the size of tamnan isaan in Pattaya. And it gets worse, the big room has a stage used for karaoke. Really weird! The small room had a stage too it was empty but i felt that people were waiting for a show to start. I'm guessing 3 to 4 hundred people, maybe a bit more.

Then there is a possibility to go upstairs. I haven't been upstairs but it seems to be possible to go up or down in different parts of the building.

All in all it's a horrible place (my opinion) but the phone number that I get from a really handsome boy after only 5 minutes makes up for all. I only stayed a few minutes but will go back in a few weeks.

Hello and zhao (is not that VNese?)

Been to PH in febr/march '14, mainly as normal tourist, was here once very short time around 1990. That sh Mack from what I remember was mainly limited to some massage shops-there must also be some 40-50 in Quezon mainly (Cubao is part of Quezon), I only did 1.

There are several sites about gay life in Ph: like manilagayguy, but they tend to be mixed in English and Tagalog. Also 1 very informative blog of a working english gay teacher, who likes to go clubbing. Eager to read more of you over there.

I went to Starlites again Sunday a week ago. Monday was a holiday because of the pope's visit, so i thought it might be a good night.

I met a boy online and invited him to bring some friends. He decided to bring 2 friends so we were 4. I picked them up because we live in the same (city) area and we decided to check out Malate first. Chelu was the only place to go but there were no people. Disappointment!

So we had 1 drink and went over to Cubao. I solved the booze problem by bringing some hard stuff in a small water bottle. They boys drank beer and i enjoyed my mix drinks. Starlites had only the larger room open but it was 3/4 full.

We decided to go across the street first. I think that place used to be called Palawan # but now it's called pink Manila. We had to pay entrance and it didn't include a drink. I don't remember how much. The place is pretty small and there were not to many people. It was also pretty dark so it was hard to see the other guests. However, i did notice a group come in and amongst them was a really cute guy.

Anyway, the place was boring and I think you really need to be a Filipino or maybe speak Tagalog to enjoy it. The 45 minutes we were there, 3 gays on stage were entertaining the small crowed with jokes that i couldn't understand. I will not go back there.

Starlites was a weird as before. Such a big room with karaoke. But I didn't go there for the music. Many cute guys and easy to make contact with. Having set that, the boy i saw in Pink MANILA was not so easy to talk too. He walked by 3 times and never gave me a look. I found out his name and even tried to chat him up but he ignored me :-)

Nothing ventured :-)

Anyway, the boy that i invited originally was really cute too. His friends were not my style but great fun. They invited me to a party last Saturday but I decided not to go. According to them there is much more to do in town, I'm curious and will let them show me. However, In two weeks I will go with them to Starlites again but on a Saturday. I will try to report more about the types of boys that walk around there and if there are many for hire etc.
