The Democrats had their chance; Bernie would have thrashed Trump owing to his engagement with the working-class victims of US banksters. The question is, will he be too old for the next election, by which time Trump will have made the US a laughing stock across the world....and the banksters will be even richer and the poor even poorer.

I believe that is likely to be the case. My thinking is the next Democrat presidential candidate will be Elizabeth Warren. And if she runs, unless Trump's presidency turns out to be a very pleasant surprise and he runs for a second term, she already has my vote.

My take on Trump's presidency is one that will be mired with legal problems mostly from conflicts of interest relating to his domestic and global business interests, I don't believe he will be able to finish 4 years let alone 8.

I hope you're wrong. If you're right, then we'll be stuck with Pence, which is even worse.

Yes indeed. Trump is a buffoon and changes his views by the hour but isn't ideological. Come to think of it, his interest-such as it is- in politics is framed by self-interest. However, Pence is an ideologue of the far-right. Gays, women, Afro-Americans and Muslims would be his targets. The only question is , where would he start? I suspect with the gay community....politicians and preachers of his ilk tend to be obsessed with us. Sometimes not unconnected with their own tendencies.

Sounds like a sensible prediction to me, seeing how The Donald seems to be unwilling to let go of his business.

Speaking of wishful thinking, I do wish him success, too. ;)

I hope he falls flat on his face, along with the ghastly bigots he appoints, and that decent Americans will oppose racism as ardently and successfully as the Republicans stymied Obama's administration. And, meanwhile, that the US's influence on the rest of the world declines to the point of irrelevance.

I agree with the first part of your post, but regarding the US influence, I am not so sure.it's such a bad thing.
