For lodging: Iron32 hotel, just "behind corner" of "gay-street" near Night Bazaar, 50 meters from Ram bar. Amazing but not expensive boutique hotel with young, cute and unfortunately str8 owner who is very loyal to gays (me and husband had stay there and had very interesting long discussion with him about gays in Thailand), best coffee in Chiang Mai in his cafe downstairs
For side trips: Doi Inthanon for sure - amazing mountain views, by the way waterfalls and tribe hill village. Woody from Siamroads.com provides that tour, as well as Chiang Rai and golden triangle.

Re: Chiang Mai Advice
Thanks Moses.
The location of Iron32 sounds perfect, and enjoying a cup of coffee with the owner you described would be a nice way to start the day.
Thanks for the links as well.
Cheers
