Mercure closed

Post by Montree »

For many years I used to stay at the Mercure. Reasonably quiet but near Boystown etc. A very relaxed policy on boys in rooms and a good pool. It had gone down hill in recent years and I stopped going there. I've just walked past and it's closed.

It's due to reopen in August with a new name and owner.

Those piles of debris in the photo makes it look like Mercure is undergoing some sort of renovation.

Lots of workmen on site and lots of noisy hammering etc. Looks like a complete interior rebuild. I wonder if it will still be cheap when it reopens.

I think you'll find that's the Mercure Ocean Resort which is still operating. The one I'm talking about is due to reopen as the "Heeton Complex" in August and is in Central Pattaya.

It won't be the Mercure by then. Personally I'd leave it until the nature of the "Heeton Complex" becomes clearer. Perhaps they're going upmarket.

When I first stayed at the Mercure there was a view from my room over an area of trees. Then I watched year by year as a huge condominium was built and the trees cut down. Now it's hemmed in on all sides by buildings and the pool is shaded for part of the day.

Now the name sign has gone and the reception is full of cement sacks. If it's really meant to reopen as the Heeton Complex in August there is a lot of work to do as the place has been gutted.

You are right.
This property is closed from May 15 2023 to December 31 2024 (dates subject to change) tells me Expedia but Accor will let me book rooms.

There's a lot of familiar looking old bathroom fittings now stacked and scrapped outside the old Mercure. I wonder if they'll be able to increase the size of the bathrooms with the refit. The rooms were a decent size but the bathroom was tiny.
