Australia moves on gay marriage

Post by a447 »

Following the "yes" vote in Ireland, Australia is now moving quickly on the issue. The Labor opposition will introduce a bill into parliament next Monday to legalise gay marriage.

The Prime Minister, whose sister is a lesbian, firmly opposes gay marriage and has always said he would not allow a conscience vote on the matter, but he's now reconsidering. A majority of his party are in favour of changing the law. A good should take place on August.

All of this because of the vote in Ireland. Who would have thought Ireland, of all countries, would legalise gay marriage?

Although I personally am not in favour of gay marriage....yet, I'm really happy that they had the balls to hold a referendum on the issue.

I wonder how many other countries are now reconsidering their stance the matter.
